Stevenson will return next season

Guard DeShawn Stevenson will return to the Mavericks next season after exercising his player option to do so last week, his agent Mark Bartelstein said Monday.

Bartelstein said it was the right move for Stevenson after considering the free agent market this summer and after playing limited minutes for Dallas last season. Stevenson, 29, arrived in the same trade with Caron Butler and Brendan Haywood in February. He averaged 2.0 points and 11.1 minutes once joining the Mavs from Washington.

Stevenson, who is expected to make $4.1 million in the final year of his contract, can become a free agent after next season.
